Why We Give

Whether you grew up in church, just started going to church, or have been hurt by church, we hear the same thing over and over: give. Why is giving so important? Because giving is an act of love, the Word tells us that “for God so loved the World that he gave” (John 3:16). When you are a cheerful and willing giver, you share the blessing with the reciprocate (Luke 6:38). I emphasize willing because God doesn’t look at the material or monetary value of what we have and or giving, God looks at our hearts. What are your intentions? Why are you giving? What are you expecting to receive back from giving? That’s what God looks at.

Before I share how your giving has blessed me, I want to look at a Bible verse together:

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” — 2 Corinthians 9:7

What have you decided to give?

Out of what you have, you have already decided in your heart – in your innermost being – what you have to give. God does not want you to give more than that because it is not the quantity you give, but the joy and the love for the person, church, ministry, or whatever else it may be you are giving towards. Are you giving out of obligation or out of desire? God loves a cheerful giver. If you are still holding on to that $20 bill, maybe now is not the time to give that. You either have a lower amount you already decided to give or your heart is not yet in the right posture to be giving to that person or organization.

It is because of cheerful givers that I was able to go to Kenya, Africa back in May 26 to June 7, 2025. Your donations paid for my plane ticket. My dad was able to rent a nice Airbnb for all of us to stay in and we were able to get food to cook. Your donations paid for our gas so we could go to all the places God preordained us to speak at. Your giving allowed us to go bless, encourage, and love on the citizens in Nairobi and Mombasa, Kenya. We visited schools to share God’s love with the children and blessed them all with candy and their own Bibles. I got to go with my mom and my aunt to listen to the stories of the women in  another culture, how they struggle and how they rely on God. In return, got to encourage them with my own revelations from God.

God loves making a big blessing out of a little. Remember the boy with the fish and the bread? That wasn’t even enough food to feed one man, but because of his heart to give, it fed thousands! With leftovers! When we give, God always multiplies the blessings in abundance!
