Hello friends,
I just finished 8 months here in Mombasa, Kenya. During this time I’ve been on the streets sharing the Gospel, visiting schools, and most recently, spending time in a rehab facility.
As I’ve talked with believers, I’ve realized there are three main reasons most people don’t go out and share their faith:
- They are ashamed of being a Christian.
- They are afraid.
- They don’t know what to say.
Let’s break these down together.
1. Ashamed of the Gospel
Paul writes in Romans 1:16:
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”
Paul wasn’t ashamed because he understood the power of the Gospel. It is the only thing that can save people. When you truly grasp this, you won’t be ashamed to share it.
Even your personal testimony carries God’s power. As Paul tells Timothy in 2 Timothy 1:8–9, we are not to be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord. Your story of what Jesus has done is powerful.
2. Fear
Fear keeps many Christians silent. But fear does not come from God.
2 Timothy 1:7 says:
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”
That power is the Holy Spirit. In Acts 1:8, Jesus promised that we would receive power to be His witnesses. God’s power breaks the grip of fear and gives us boldness.
Hebrews 13:5–6 reminds us:
“I will never leave you nor forsake you… The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.”
Like a child who runs to their parent when afraid, we can run to God. When we know He is with us, we have nothing to fear.
3. Not Knowing What to Say
Many believers hesitate because they don’t feel prepared. But the Bible tells us in Psalm 81:10:
“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt: open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.”
You don’t always need a perfect script. Step out in faith, open your mouth, and God will give you the words.
Final Thoughts
If you’ve ever felt ashamed, afraid, or unsure of what to say, take courage: the Gospel is powerful, the Holy Spirit empowers, and God Himself is with you. All you need to do is step out in faith.
God bless you,
Solomon
