3 Reasons People Don’t Evangelize (And How to Overcome Them)

Hello friends,

I recently completed eight incredible months here in Mombasa, Kenya. During this time, I’ve had the privilege of sharing the Gospel on the streets, visiting schools, and most recently, spending time ministering in a rehabilitation facility.

Through these experiences, I’ve met countless believers who love Jesus deeply—but many still struggle to share their faith openly. As I’ve talked with people, I’ve realized there are three main reasons most Christians don’t step out to share the Gospel:

  1. They are ashamed of being a Christian.

  2. They are afraid.

  3. They don’t know what to say.

Let’s take a closer look at each of these.

1. Ashamed of the Gospel

Paul writes in Romans 1:16:

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”

Paul understood something vital—the Gospel isn’t just good advice; it’s the power of God that brings salvation. When we truly grasp this truth, shame loses its grip.

Even your personal testimony carries that same power. In 2 Timothy 1:8–9, Paul reminds Timothy not to be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord. Your story—how Jesus changed your life—is powerful. It’s living proof of God’s grace at work.

2. Fear

Fear is one of the greatest barriers to sharing our faith. But Scripture tells us clearly that fear does not come from God.

2 Timothy 1:7 says:

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”

That power is the Holy Spirit. In Acts 1:8, Jesus promised that we would receive power to be His witnesses. That same power gives us boldness to speak when our flesh wants to stay silent.

Hebrews 13:5–6 reminds us:

“I will never leave you nor forsake you… The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.”

Just like a child runs to a parent for safety, we can run to God. When you know He’s with you, fear melts away.

3. Not Knowing What to Say

Many believers hesitate to share their faith because they don’t feel qualified or prepared. But God promises to fill our mouths when we open them.

Psalm 81:10 says:

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt: open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.”

You don’t need a perfect script—just a willing heart. Step out in faith, and trust the Holy Spirit to give you the words. He always does.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve ever felt ashamed, afraid, or unsure of what to say, take courage:

  • The Gospel is powerful.

  • The Holy Spirit empowers.

  • And God Himself is with you.

All He asks is that you step out in faith. Someone is waiting to hear the hope that only Jesus can bring.

God bless you,
– Solomon
